The Little Britain Challenge Cup Sailing Regatta 2008
Once again Imtech joined battle in the Little Britain Challenge Cup, the construction industry sailing regatta, held in September each year in Cowes on the Isle of Wight. The regatta is second only to Cowes week in size and this year 300 boats and close to 3000 people across the industry took part. The event has become a major networking and marketing milestone on the industry calendar.
Flushed with last year’s success we entered Class 0 again (the big boats) ready to duel with Robert McAlpine’s boat Panthera. The crew was a pretty even mixture of Imtech people and clients and the boat was “John Merrick 2nd”. First and second races went pretty much to plan with Imtech finishing 2nd in both. 1st and 2nd boats were well ahead of the rest. A Panthera versus Imtech duel was looking good!
Unfortunately, the best description of our third race performance was “adventurous”, a string of mishaps pushing us into 13th place. While we recovered our poise to some extent in the last race it was not good enough to beat the exceptional McAlpine performance. We finished the regatta 4th in Class.
