G&H Land £12M Flagship Project for Nottingham Trent University

The Nottingham Trent University - Newton & Arkwright Buildings were once one of the largest universities in the country serving over 24,000 students, with origins dating back to 1843.

Goodmarriott & Hursthouse Ltd were invited to tender for the electrical and mechanical services works package for the Nottingham Trent University - Newton & Arkwright Buildings in November 2007.  Through our hard work, determination and key value engineering cost exercises, we were appointed as the M&E Services Contractor in late January 2008.  The mechanical and electrical services installation order value is circa £12M.

The two existing buildings have been completely stripped out; both of the original buildings are grade listed and will be completely refurbished. The Arkwright interior will be restored to its former glory allowing for some fine features of Victorian design to be displayed.  The buildings comprise of general teaching areas, lecture theatres, staff areas and offices.  The Central Court, a new build quadrangle building sitting between the Newton and Arkwright buildings will give a contrast of new and old.

The project started at the beginning of May this year and is due to be completed in October 2009.  Paul Timson, G&H Senior Project Manager, commented:  “Working closely with Bowmer & Kirkland, Arups & Hopkins, G&H will have a large part to play in restoring and enhancing the existing and new buildings to their former architectural glory, incorporating the new high tech requirements of the university.”
